Facility Synopsis:
Dr. C.F. Harrison and Dr. Carlton Grissom remodeled an old house into the first hospital in Syracuse. The life of the small hospital was all too short. Within a year or two, the expenses so far exceeded the income that the hospital was closed.
The Donohue Memorial Hospital was the result of a dream of Mrs. Electa Donohue, widow of pioneer John Donohue, one of the first settlers in Hamilton County. This splendid institution was extensively used for many years.
Hamilton County Hospital was opened November 9, 1964, and has 29 beds. The Long Term Unit was opened September 1, 1973, with 27 beds. In June of 1991, the Hospital and Long Term Care Unit merged with the Hamilton County Rest home, built in 1977. This merger made it possible to use some hospital services. The resulting complex is the Hamilton County Hospital and Seasons of Life Living Center, as it exists today.
